We have been hearing news on suicide committed by the engineering students.but this
incident is something different . Prosenjit sarkar, a fourth year electrical engineering
student of of NIT Durgapur died on Wednesday i.e on 18th of November
on campus due to the oversight of medical treatment given to him.
Prosenjit was perceiving caustic headache which didn’t allow him to complete his
semester paper. On Monday morning he admitted himself he admitted himself to he
medical unit of NIT Duragpur at 2pm which claim to have 24 hours medical service,
but ironically the doctor didn’t arrived till 5pm. He was given sleeping and headache pills
by the nurse on duty with three bottles of saline.
after imitate appeal by his friend to keep him after medical observation a doctor was summoned
who gave him an injection and forcefully sent him back to his hostel with his friend.
Prosenjit returned walking the corridor to his room but he felt unconscious on the floor. His
friend waited 40 minutes with him waiting an ambulance from the medical unit. Without waiting
for the ambulance further they took him in tempo but unfortunately he succumbed on the way.
Without realizing that he was dead the doctor casually mentioned that his low pressure was
of nothing concerned and referred him to the mission hospital. Such abominable doctor.
Who doesn’t even know the difference between dead an alive.
Prosenjit belong to a poor family. He had no mother, only a father. His father couldn’t
even afford the money to carry out the rituals of his dead son. Later after having
immense pressure by the students the authority provided money to carry out the rituals.
The students are now demanding a compensation of 15 lakhs to the authority and
to provide it to his father. But what good is the money when is the son is no more.
